Tom Walker, driving the Amilcar Hispano Special, snatched victory from rivals Julian Grimwade and last year’s Historic Monaco winner, Matt Grist, in the Pre-1940 Racing Cars Over 3000cc class.
Tom said: “If you’ve got 12 litres and a little car and you can’t win, you’re not trying hard enough!”
Although Tom found the course took some getting used to, he got it just right to record a time of 46.16 seconds.
He said: “I found it quite hard to judge where corners were and I may have been one of those who went off the track at the first corner. I’m not great at learning hills. When you’re driving quickly, it’s hard to learn. If I could have gone up 10 times instead of four, I could have learned it!”
