His grandfather, Phil Chapman, raced the Chapman Mercury III at the Chateau Impney sprints in the late 1950s and early 60s. Oliver races the car regularly, but racing it at the Chateau was extra special.
He said: “It’s good to bring it back to somewhere it has raced before.”
Oliver took to the track on competition day immediately after a torrential downpour. So how was it?
Oliver said: “It was good fun. The wet surface was better for me - I took it slower, but got the lines right. I’m crossing my fingers that it dries out for later and I can put everything I’ve learned over the past two days into practice.”
