The Morgan Motor Company is a local company that celebrated its centenary just a few short years ago and is this year celebrating the 50th anniversary of the Morgan Plus 8.
The original Morgan Plus 8 was unveiled in 1968, and the prototype has been known as MMC 11 ever since. Over 6,000 models have been built by hand since 1968, and there will be 50 of the new model made- one to celebrate each year.
To celebrate this achievement, Morgan have collaborated with Christopher Ward watches to create the C1 Morgan Plus 8 Chronometer. These will be awarded to each of the new owners of the 50 vehicles manufactured. Each watch will contain a small piece of the original MMC 11, that has inspired the 50th anniversary model. This will be embedded into the watches back plate, meaning the wearer will be a part of the Plus 8’s 50-year history.
The new Plus 8 will be available in both a blue to reflect the colour and style as MMC 11 with an open cockpit, or as a traditional convertible in British Racing Green. The car has been carefully designed to reflect the heritage of both the Plus 8 and the Morgan Motor Company, while making sure it belongs firmly in the 21st century. For example, the specially commissioned 5 stud alloys reflect the original cast wheel from throughout the Plus 8’s history, but they have been refined to make sure the car can handle the increased power of the V8 engine beneath the hand-crafted body.
Steve Morris, Managing Director of the Morgan Motor Company, has called the Morgan Plus 8 “one of the most iconic and revered models of Morgan’s history. [It] has been a part of the range for my entire Morgan career, and it is an honour and a privilege to unveil this celebratory model…”. The Chateau Impney Hill Climb team is thrilled to reveal that when the Morgan Motor Company return to the Hill Climb this summer, they will be bringing with them both the new Plus 8 and MMC 11!
