Matt Grist Finds the Right Gear on Competition Day

Sunday 12 July 2015

Yesterday was all about practice at Chateau Impney Hill Climb, today is about competition. After two runs, drivers are getting to know the course and working out the best way to drive it.

Matt Grist (number 133) drove the fastest time in Pre-1940 Racing Cars over 3000cc class in the Alfa Romeo Tipo B P3, recording 46.82 seconds, shaving nearly two seconds off his time in practice.

Matt said: “It was a good run, yesterday I missed the first corner, but today I was more consistent. I took my time to learn the course - yesterday I did the whole course in 1st gear, but today I drove it all in 2nd, which seemed to work better.

“It was surprisingly dry this morning, but I didn’t know it was dry until I’d finished the course! Hopefully it will dry out a bit more for this afternoon and I can knock another second off my time.”
