Martin Tomlinson is well known within the motorsport world for his evocative paintings and drawings that truly capture the spirit of the world’s most stunning cars.
His works have been sought out by celebrities across the world, including John Surtees, Zak Brown and Theo Paphitis, and now he’ll be present at each H&H auction this year – painting and sketching before and during each sale. Anyone browsing or buying at the auction will have the chance to commission Martin to create a drawing or painting of their car.
Martin has been passionate about motorsport for as long as he can remember, and has always sketched and painted racing cars. His passion for racing began when he went to a meeting at Crystal Palace in the early 1950s and since then, apart from Farina and Ascari, he has seen every single F1 World Champion in action.
Simon Hope, Chairman of H&H, said: “We are delighted to have Martin Tomlinson as our artist in residence. All of us who love cars have fallen in love with them originally through our eyes, and the sheer beauty of the best car design will stand the test of time. In Martin, we are fortunate to have one of the best exponents of automotive art join us. He understands that love affair and will significantly add to the rich mix of charm and excitement that makes H&H auctions what they are.”
Much of Martin’s work is showcased on his website. Martin works in gouache to two styles. His first, most traditional style features a specific car/driver combination at a particular event. Martin’s alternative graphic style features a static car with a limited background consisting of the manufacturers’ badge and one or two items that relate to the car.
If you would like to commission Martin, you can speak to him at the Hill Climb on Sunday 10 July to discuss your requirements, or visit his website for further details.
