Artistry in Aluminium is the work of Northamptonshire-based artist Paul Pennell who creates three-dimensional Repousse work motorsport pictures using only basic hand tools.
Paul has been involved with vintage and classic cars all his life, joining the family restoration business from school where he learnt the trade of making handmade wings and bodies in steel and aluminium. The business mainly concentrated on 1920s and 1930s Rolls-Royces and other quality marques, as well as a variety of historic racing cars.
Artistry in Aluminium was born in 2005 following his father’s passing when the family business closed and Paul was looking for a way in which to continue his involvement with historic cars but on a smaller scale. Paul uses aluminium as the medium lends itself especially well to depicting cars and creating detailed motoring art.
