The Chateau Impney Hill Climb is thrilled to announce that the car that provided the soundtrack to the latest Mad Max video game will be competing at the Hill Climb for 2018!
The 1967 Chevrolet Camaro has quite a showbiz history, and has earned itself the nickname ‘Butch’. It was also the car driven by David Piper at Cholmondeley in June 2016. David Piper is a former Formula 1 driver, and is probably better remembered for driving Ferrari GTO’s and Porsche 917’s during the 1960’s but in the 1968 and 69 British Touring Car Championship raced a 1967 Chevrolet Camaro, and won the event, beating the favourite Frank Gardner. Perhaps it was this nostalgia that made David want to race Butch this time.
Butch has enjoyed rather an illustrious racing career, winning at the double header TT races in South Africa with its current owner and driver Tim Boles, as well as multiple wins in the 90’s at Croft, Castle Combe, and the Isle of Man Manx Classic amongst many others. We hope he can replicate this success in July!
