After the exciting announcement that the Chateau Impney Hill Climb will be hosting the second stage of Ralli 22, we are pleased to release the first five cars that will be competing here this summer.
The first car is a 1984 Lancia Rallye 037 Evoluzione 2 that was raced by Gianfranco Cunico, a three-time Italian champion. This series of cars were manufactured especially by Abarth with the intention of winning the WRC, which was achieved by Walter Rohm and Markku Alen in 1983. This particular car was restored following the demise of Group B, in Martini colours and found its home in the UK in 1996.
The next car we have competing in Ralli 22 is a 1994 Opel Astra, that has previously won the Dutch national championship. The driver of this car has a number of accolades to his name including the British Historic Championship 2003 and a class win at the Lombard RAC Rally.
We will also have a Ford Focus WRC 01 attending, the same car that came second overall in the Monte Carlo Rally 2000 driven by Carlos Sainz. This car was also driven by Petter Solberg in the Finnish WRC in 2000. The driver competing this year holds titles as the 1999 British Junior Rally Champion and 2009 BTRDA Gold Star Rally Champion.
A Lotus Espirit pre-production which has been owned by the likes of Dimi Mangrapolis who was the national rally champion in Cyprus and Brian Betteridge. The current owner has won Formula B at Croft many times and the 1992 national champion BRDA Division One supercars and rally cars.
The final car to announce today is a Ford Escort RS2000 F2 Kit Car which is an ex-works car used by the Ford Motor Company. It has won its class in various rallies and in the British rally championship. Its current driver has won the BTRDA Silver Star national championship and the Historic Class in Wales Rally GB.
We hope you are as excited as we are to see these wonderful cars at the Hill Climb this summer! Look out for the next announcement of competing cars.
